I feel really wrong and weird and guilty for writing a Christmas post now... It's far too late but I completely forgot I had the photos and don't want to just leave them!
Rocca Paolina is an underground fortress at the end of the main street, Corso Vannucci, in Perugia. It can be accessed by escalators, and although it's interesting to walk around (it's like a huge and kind of scary underground maze) I think a lot of people actually use it just to quickly get to the bottom of the city on the escalators. I saw a lot of businessy looking men and generally busy people whilst I wandered aimlessly!
In December, the building was transformed from what looked like a creepy prison, into a magical Christmas grotto, full of stalls and weird smells and handmade gifts.
Ok, now I've looked through the photos again, you can't really tell it's a Christmas market ... can you?!
It was so pretty and definitely warmed up the atmosphere of the usually quite dingy underground maze.
Right, that's it, no more Christmas posts!
