Things I've learnt this week...#3

Writing these posts for the last couple of weeks has made me realise how quickly weeks pass! This past week I was joined by my boyfriend, it's a bit of a short one but let's see what we learned about Italian life...
- That I clearly do not know enough Italian to understand that the waiter at the Pizzeria is saying they’re not doing pizza that night. To be fair, what even is that?! A pizzeria with no pizza? Anyway, we tried to order, had an embarrassing situation with the waiter of ‘Oh, I…I told you at the door?’ ‘Oh that’s what you said, ok, oh hmm ok…’ I thought Tom (who loves pizza more than he loves me) would be annoyed but we both went for pasta instead and then cheekily got a slice of pizza from a different shop on the way home… Sshh
- One thing we tried but failed to learn was what Sunday 23rd was all about. We were on our way back from a wander when we saw loads of people crowded in Piazza IV Novembre, and some barriers. We thought we’d stick around to see what would happen. This turned into standing around for half an hour before hearing drumming and a procession coming up the street, with people dressed in old costume and holding flags of what we presumed were Italian towns? After lots more drumming and standing, a mini staged battle took place, with gun shots and everything. It was definitely some sort of commemoration of a battle, but even after lots of Googling, we could not figure out what. If anyone can shed some light on this please let me know…!
- That when the weather isn't miserable, the views of the sunrise from my room are gorgeous. Anyone who follows me on Instagram will already know this, and I will post an example below. The light shines in through the shutters at around 7am, and this week I spent many mornings getting excited like a child and dragging Tom out of bed so we could both see the view. I felt very lucky to have the view (and man) I have!
- I can’t think of much else to be honest; we spent too much time eating, drinking and wandering round and managed to avoid too many embarrassing and awkward situations. Definitely a first for me! Let’s see what this week brings…
