10 things I'm excited to go home for...

Tomorrow is finally 1st December and I can’t explain my excitement.

My time in Italy so far has consisted of exploring, eating, relaxing, etc. and my brain feels like I should be going home soon and this has all been one long holiday. And as lovely and beautiful as Italy is, there are just some things that only England can offer me. And the next time I’ll be there it will be only a few days away from Christmas. (eeeek) Therefore, because of my festive cheer, I am going to list a few things I’m excited to go home for.

1. Singing ‘Driving home for Christmas’ on the way home from the train station loudly and annoyingly for whoever will be driving me. (Probably Dad, here’s your warning and sorry-not-sorry in advance)

2. Bubble baths. Oh my. I’m gonna go all out. Lush products, candles, glass of wine, the works.

3. Fire on, candles lit, trashy UK tv and the sofa.

4. My bed. Even when you’re only away for a week it’s nice to be back in your ‘own’ bed, so I think mine’s gonna feel extra comfy this time.

5. My mum’s cooking. Or just English cooking in general. Potatoes, meat that isn’t always ham, cheddar instead of parmesan, etc. Also, ovens. The oven in my flat sometimes cuts out all power if there’s too much other stuff running (bless) so I’m just making do with the hob for now. But when I return home, Mother, please have all roasted goods and fruit crumbles at the ready.

6. Spending time with family (and Tom’s). Currently missing Mum’s moments of pure hysteria when she thinks she’s being funny, my sister subconsciously acting as my mum, and Dad’s hugs and chats.

7. Spending New Year with Tom. The plan is to just be the two of us with some of our favourite things – food, music and fireworks.

8. Catch up with some friends – Monica is the first that comes to mind as she’ll have just got back from her semester studying in New York and we will have lots of ‘being abroad’ type stories to share and relate to.

9. Internet! Unlimited! I’m gonna listen to so much music, watch so many Youtube videos and Skype with people next door just because I can.

10. Giving people presents. It’s a bit trickier this year as I don’t have a wealth of big shops to just pop into for presents, and I’m having to look and think a bit harder. But that’s a good thing, surely the best gifts are the more thoughtful ones?

Making this list has made me feel even more festive! And the Christmas lights have officially been turned on in Perugia, more photos to follow in another post…
